Leverburgh Village hall applied , with the assistance of Harris Council of Voluntary services, for funding to purchase a minibus for South Harris.
Twenty-one user groups came together to support the application and £31,750 was awarded by the Scottish executive community Transport CFund. £6,175 was received from the Church of Scotland, and £1,890 from Comhairle nan Eilean siar. This ensured that the purchase price of a renaut 17 seater with a disabled lift and its revenue costs for one year was scured.
The minibus has now arrived and is already being well used. It is an enormous boost to South Harris groups, who previously were dependant on Community education buses which were based at Tarbert.
