European
Computer Driving Licence The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is an internationally recognised qualification in computer skills which is designed to give employers and job seekers a standard against which they can measure competency in practice rather than just in theory. It includes seven modules covering basic computer knowledge, file management, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, information gathering and communication (ie. emails and the internet). More and more people now have computers in the home and have to use them at work but too often they are left to muddle their way through and often miss out on the really easy and fun ways of doing things. Doing the ECDL course equips you to participate fully in what has been dubbed the Information Society. The syllabus covers everything you need to know to allow you to sit down at a computer and not feel threatened by it in fact just the opposite: to make it do what you want it to do. The testing of knowledge is done in easily manageable segments and each module passed is entered in a passport which, on completion, earns the successful student their full ECDL certificate. We are planning to run an ECDL course at the Harris Learning Centre in Tarbert. It will be held on one day a week from 10am until 3pm and will run over an academic year for a total of 30 weeks. The day and start date have not yet been fixed and will depend on what suits most students. Anyone interested in taking part in the course should contact Mike Briggs on Harris 502376 for further details. If you get the answerphone please leave your number and I will call you back. PLEASE NOTE: There are only nine places on this course so registration will have to be on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone who has spoken to me informally about doing an ECDL course must contact me again to register their interest officially. |
